Stefan Zellermayer and his teammates from TSV Hartpenning were very successful at the European Curling Championships.
There were two gold and two silver.
Hartpenning – There was a steady flow of precious metal for the stick shooters of TSV Hartpenning at the European Championships in Waldkraiburg.
Stefan Zellermayer won two gold medals, one silver medal and, together with his teammates from Hartpenning, another silver medal in the team ranking.
Curling: TSV Hartpenning successful at European Championships
After the preliminary and second rounds of the team competition in classic curling, in which the best eight teams in Europe duel against each other, the German team was in second place.
“In the playoff we shot almost flawlessly against the previously unbeaten Austrians and were confident in the final,” reports Zellermayer.
However, Team Austria then won safely against Italy and so the two neighboring countries duel again in the final.
With Andreas Lambert, Stefan Thurner, Matthias
Peischer and Zellermayer had four Hartpenningers on the ice for Germany.
In the end, Austria shot a little more precisely and won gold, not entirely undeservedly.
“We stuck together really well as a team and silver is a great result,” said the four Hartpenningers, and rightly so.
Zellermayer's first gold came in the target shooting team competition.
Together with Stefan Thurner, Manuel Schmid (FC Ottenzell) and Thomas Elsenberger (EC Saßbach), Germany won just ahead of Austria and Switzerland.
Unfortunately, the mixed competition continued immediately afterwards.
“We men were a bit mentally drained after the gold medal,” admits Zellermayer.
But because the women remained extremely precise, it was enough for silver in the end.
European Championships in Waldkraiburg: tension until the end
In the preliminary round of individual target shooting, Zellermayer had to be content with a rather modest result, but still narrowly led the ranking.
The final then turned into a big gala for the 25-year-old from Hartpenning.
Almost 1,000 fans turned the packed Waldkraiburger Hall into a madhouse and experienced a super-exciting competition until the last shooting, at the end of which Zellermayer secured the title.
“You're so focused and under so much energy, after that I was completely exhausted and barely responsive for a while,” admitted the new European champion, exhausted.

In the target shooting team competition, Zellermayer and his Hartpenninger club colleagues took silver and thus fourth medal.
“That was the crowning achievement, so to speak,” said the golden boy from Hartpenning, summing up the result of an incredibly intense and strenuous week.
