In a few days, TV presenter Hugo Egon Balder will be 74 years old.
But the entertainer isn't thinking about retirement yet.
Why he can't be idle even in his free time.
Berlin - Where other Germans have been enjoying their deserved idleness for almost ten years, TV presenter Hugo Egon Balder (73) emphasizes just a few days before his 74th birthday on March 22nd that he could never imagine not working anymore .
On the contrary: working on television keeps him young.
Hugo Egon Balder would still appear on TV at the age of 80
When it comes to media, Balder is a real jack-of-all-trades.
The Berlin native became known with the erotic game show “Tutti Frutti,” which he hosted on RTL plus from 1990 to 1993.
In the 90s he was also successful as co-producer of the comedy show “RTL Saturday Night”, an adaptation of the original American format “Saturday Night Live”.
He is currently filming new episodes of the comedy advice show “Genialfacing”, which has now been running intermittently for 21 years, first on Sat.1 and since 2023 on RTL II.
After 500 episodes, he ended his collaboration with Sat. 1 in 2021, and RTL II continued production.

: “I would still be doing this show when I was 80, if I still looked pretty good and my head was still there.” The format, of which he has been the director since 2003, has meant that people always have it would expect funny Hugo, no matter where he appeared.
“Even the people who I don’t think have much humor laugh.
There’s nothing better than making people laugh,” he emphasizes.
In his free time, Hugo Egon Balder lives out his love of music
He has plenty of experience on stage: whether as an actor in Berlin, a cabaret artist or even the drummer in a rock band in the 60s.
It was only “Brilliantly Mistake”, of which he has been the game director since 2003, that people would always expect the funny Hugo, no matter where he appeared.
“Even the people who I don’t think have much humor laugh.
There’s nothing better than making people laugh,” he says.
When it comes to jokes, however, the world has changed and you have to be careful not to get a “shitstorm” for what you say.

He could never be completely idle.
Not even in his free time.
Lying in the sun for six weeks is still okay, but no more.
“If I don’t do anything, I get rusty,” said the entertainer.
“Theater and television keep me young.” In his free time, he sits down at the piano or drums and plays.
He jokingly says in the interview: "The alternative would be to get a big pillow, put it on the windowsill and look out..."

By the way, he keeps his children largely out of the public eye.
From his fourth marriage he has a daughter, Saliha (23) and a son, Canel (22).
He has been married to his wife Elena for the fifth time since 2019.
Meanwhile, Balder's former regular station Sat. 1 continues to struggle with ratings problems.
