Whether there will ever be a replacement building is currently more uncertain than ever.

Markt Schwaben has no money for a new indoor swimming pool.

This became clear in the local council's budget discussions.

Markt Schwaben

– Mark Schwaben will apparently no longer be able to count on a new indoor swimming pool to replace the aging and in parts already dilapidated swimming pool next to the primary school in Mark Schwaben in the next few years.

As far as the local water sports infrastructure is concerned, the question of what happens to a possible teaching swimming pool, which would be part of the new municipal school building as a school sports facility, should not play a role.

And: Flood protection in Einbergfeld, where a private lawsuit is currently pending regarding the dam construction, could also take a while to come.

ZMS criticizes pushing in the long term

These are two not insignificant aspects that were not discussed in the public part at the most recent meeting of the market town council, in which the municipal budget for 2024 was also decided, but are part of the whole truth.

The pushing of such “big issues” was addressed by ZMS parliamentary group spokesman Sascha Hertel, who was the only elected official to reject the 67 million package presented with harsh criticism and thus caused the only critical tones of the evening in the course of the budget discussion.

His reasoning: The “big issues” in question (a new indoor swimming pool and the Einbergfeld flood protection) were not only removed from the 2024 budget, but were even postponed in the long term.

This makes the budget look better than it really is, says Hertel.

Pushing into the future ultimately makes the projects that he did not specifically name in the plenary session much more expensive overall.

Apparently there was pressure from legal supervision

According to research by our newspaper, the fact that the swimming pool and the anti-flood measures were put on the cancellation list was essentially due to a certain amount of pressure from the legal supervisory authority in the district office.

In both cases these are so-called voluntary services.

If they had been adhered to, the approval of the budget would have been jeopardized;

including the stabilization aid that is so important for the place, say insiders.

It was by no means a given that in Markt Schwaben, with the first public presentation of the municipal budget in the Council of Municipal Treasurers, it was already possible to announce that, in principle, the municipal figures package could be expected to be approved by the legal supervisory authority.

This should be available by the end of the month, said Andreas Kleebauer at the most recent market town council meeting.

Because of the debate about asylum accommodation in Burgerfeld that was scheduled at the same time (and then canceled) (we reported in detail in the Saturday edition), it was extremely well attended with over 80 guests.

After all, what the citizens of Markt Schwaben heard in this way was a professionally presented factual presentation by the treasurer that was easy to understand for everyone, and whose figures this year always amount to an impressive 844 DIN A-4 pages.
