A giant sequoia classified as a “remarkable tree”
If a first “French-style” garden was born shortly after the construction of the castle, the Courson park really began to take its current form at the end of the 17th century thanks to the work of a disciple of Le Nôtre.
The estate then evolved again in 1820 under the leadership of landscaper Louis-Martin Berthault.
Forty years later, the Bülher brothers once again diversified the species while
digging a pond.
“The park today offers strollers, at the bend of its paths, splendid viewpoints,” we can read on the estate’s website.
Visitors can admire nearly 3,000 trees and shrubs, as well as numerous plant beds.
Oaks, Li Kiang spruce brought from China, cypresses, Virginia tulip trees, cedars, liquidambars, camellias: you will not be disappointed.
The park's giant sequoia has even been awarded the “remarkable tree of France” label.

An ideal place for a family outing
This great diversity of plants allows the park to renew itself throughout the year.
The colors multiply in spring thanks to the camellias, peonies, lilacs and azaleas in bloom, while the roses and hydrangeas bring a little freshness in the summer, in the shade of the estate's large trees.
“From year to year, under the leadership of Hélène Fustier and Olivier de Nervaux-Loÿs, grandchildren of Ernest de Caraman, and their spouses, it is enriched with new plantations,” explains the estate’s website. .
It is an ideal place for a family outing with the recent creation of a course intended for children aged 7 to 12, notes the “Most beautiful gardens in France” website.
The Courson estate will reopen on March 15, 2024. The ticket for access to the park and the castle costs €12 (€10 for 7-12 year olds and over 65s, free for under 6s).
