Fitness and knowledge were in demand, but also fun and games: young water quails showed impressive performances at the water rescue district competition.

The victories went to Kochel and Holzkirchen.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen/Miesbach – The water rescue service in the district is on solid footing when it comes to youth work.

Numerous young people impressively demonstrated this over two days at the district lifeguarding competition in the Tölzer swimming pool and at the southern school.

Not only did they demonstrate very good physical fitness, their knowledge of water rescue was also impressive.

District Administrator Josef Niedermaier and Mayor Ingo Mehner also came to the event.

They were happy about the large number of participants.

24 teams in three age groups

24 teams from the entire district took on the tasks that were organized by the district youth leader Jakob Jungmeier, his deputy Tobias Eger and the deputy district chairman Hedvig Jungmeier.

In addition, eight teams from the Miesbach district took part in a special competition, with an impressive 200 children and young people giving everything they had to reach the best places in swimming and at the first aid and games stations, according to a press release Water watch.

A significant number of around 150 other supervisors and helpers ensured that everything went smoothly.

The young water quails between the ages of 8 and 16 were divided into three age groups and all had to complete the same tasks, but with different levels of difficulty depending on their age.

On Saturday the focus was on the swimming competitions, which were all held in relays.

In addition to swimming and diving disciplines, the participants also had to compete in rescue techniques in the event of swimming accidents with and without the special aids of lifeline, lifebelt and lifebuoy.

In the southern school, knowledge of first aid was tested, and in between games, skill and team spirit were always required.

Before everyone slept in the gym, they were able to let off steam on a bouldering wall, watch films or just make themselves comfortable by a fire bowl.

Young people were allowed to make short TikTok videos

Nobody was bored on Sunday either.

In addition to further first aid stations, skill games and a knowledge test about garden birds, the teams were allowed to make short TikTok videos, which were then shown on a screen in the gym and which caused great amusement.

“It is impressive how much joy and ambition the young people showed over the two days,” said youth leader Jakob Jungmeier.

“These competitions have been around for many years, and you can now see some as supervisors who were previously participants themselves.” But he points out: “Even though an impressive number have taken part, we have to constantly stay on the ball and youth work continue to promote and support in the local groups.

This is the only way we can continue to be on solid ground with young talent in the future.” In all three age groups, the teams from Kochel scored the most points for the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district and the teams from Holzkirchen for the Miesbach district.

They will now represent their districts in the district competition, which will take place in Rosenheim in mid-April.
