“I needed my husband more than my liver”: she saved her husband from cancer through living donation

Married for almost eleven years, Charlotte and Didier Poux share their life… and their liver.

Three years ago, Charlotte donated part of her liver organ to her husband, who was then suffering from cancer.

“I had persistent pain on my left side,” says the 58-year-old man.

At the scanner I was told:

Well, it's just inflammation, but on the other hand you have cancer on the liver

.

Then everything happened very quickly.

At first, there was no question of transplantation.

“In June we were referred to the hepato-biliary center (CHB) of the Paul-Brousse AP-HP hospital, where we began by removing the cancer with a hepatectomy.

Then there was a recurrence, and in July it was discovered that the liver was completely covered with cancer cells.
