The new Local Urban Plan (PLU) 2024-2030 of Melun announces a natural need for 4,000 housing units.
The city would thus reach 49,840 inhabitants in 2035. Certainly a good part of this real estate is already planned, like the rest of the eco-district, 200 new constructions in Châteaubriand-Lamartine (after the destruction of 571 social housing units) and 240 housing units in the south des Mézereaux.
But new: 250 housing units (pavilions and small collectives) are planned on the former 6 ha site of the Marc-Jacquet hospital (after the 450 already built on the former Constance-Pascal psychiatric site), 60 housing units on the former Enedis site of 1.8 ha in Melun south…
Worse: a project of 60 to 80 housing units in the Lebarbier parking lot in the city center was announced during a public meeting in October 2023. Contested by the Réinventons Melun group, it was finally abandoned by the city.
