Highlights: A chapel is rising again. The Sibichhauser Wegkapelle near Klas is being rebuilt. The chapel was completely destroyed in a storm in July 2022 and is expected to stand until the Allmannshausen fire department's anniversary celebration in June. The building application has already been approved by the district office on the condition that the two by three meter building corresponds exactly to what was previously there. “It should be ready by our festival on June 23rd. Nobody believes that, but I will manage it somehow,” says Hans-Peter Eisenhut.

The Sibichhauser Wegkapelle near Klas is being rebuilt.

The chapel was completely destroyed in a storm in July 2022 and is expected to stand until the Allmannshausen fire department's anniversary celebration in June.

The fire department is asking for financial support for this.

Sibichhausen

– Little is known about the history of the small chapel leading to the Klas in Sibichhausen.

It belonged to the Klas-Hof of the Steinsberger family and probably dates from the 18th century.

It has been a listed building since 1981.

The disaster occurred on a stormy night at the end of July 2022: The old linden tree that stood next to the church fell over during the storm and literally flattened the chapel.

It was a sad sight, which can still be seen today in the corner of the chapel that remained standing.

Now the Allmannshauser fire department wants to rebuild the house chapel.

The small path chapel is one of three places of worship depicted on the standard of the Allmannshausen fire department, alongside the St. Valentin Church in Allmannshausen and the Assenhausen Chapel.

The Allmannshauser fire department is responsible for these three Bergen districts.

Fire department member Hans-Peter Eisenhut is taking care of the new building in Sibichhausen - in the 150th year of the fire department, which is celebrating its anniversary with a big festival at the end of June, it is a matter of honor for him that the small chapel is rebuilt.

“The chapel should look like it did before,” says Eisenhut.

The building application has already been approved by the district office on the condition that the two by three meter building corresponds exactly to what was previously there.

“It should be ready by our festival on June 23rd.

Nobody believes that, but I will manage it somehow,” says Eisenhut confidently.

This is what it should look like again: the chapel before the storm.

First, the remaining remains should be cleared away, then a foundation should be built on which the walls will go.

The benches on the left and right should also be rebuilt.

Eisenhut receives a lot of help from the community: Martin Schmid takes over the masonry work, architect Florian Brandl drew the approval plans.

He's happy to help, says Brandl.

“We want to reconstruct what’s there – what you can reconstruct from photos and what’s left,” he says.

The Sibichhauser Chapel is not the first that the Berger architect built.

Five years ago, the private Guardian Angel Chapel near Luigenkam (Münsing municipality), which he designed, was inaugurated.

The difference to Sibichhausen: There was no previous chapel there, and the Guardian Angel Chapel is accessible, which is not the case in Sibichhausen.

For Brandl, this work is something special: “Residential buildings change after a few decades, but a chapel remains.”

Despite the voluntary work of everyone involved, the restoration costs money.

Eisenhut expects the costs to be around 15,000 euros.

The Allmannshauser fire department is therefore asking the citizens of Berg to support them in the project.

Eisenhut has experience with church renovations: he has already renovated St. Valentin in Allmannshausen twice (we reported).

He was also involved in the repair of the Assenhauser Chapel and is now taking care of the Sibichhauser Chapel.

He was also there in 1985 when it came to designing the fire brigade standard.

“When looking for suitable motifs, Hans Urban and I came to the churches and chapels in our area of responsibility, it was obvious,” he says.

Now he has soon completed all the holy places that he had embroidered on the flag.
