The Repair Café at Gautinger Bahnhof has been around for ten years now.

There everything is recycled there.

Saturday showed once again how necessary and useful it is to repair instead of throw away.

Gauting - There was a lot of activity on Saturday afternoon at the repair café, founded by Christiane Lüst and engineer Karl Heinz Jobst a decade ago in the former Gauting train station pizzeria.

34 customers came with defective devices, such as a computer or a coffee machine.

We managed to repair everyday devices on 24 devices – once again.

One of the many volunteers who take care of larger and smaller defects is the computer scientist Hermann Schmidt.

This time he was dealing with Ulrich Kick's analog CD player and cassette deck.

“That took a lot of time,” said Schmidt.

But the repair was successful – much to the delight of the owner.

Karl Heinz Jobst, co-founder of the first repair café in the district, once again helped desperate citizens with problems with their computers or smartphones.

“People have their children explain cell phones and PCs to them, but they don’t know how to use them and then they resign,” the 73-year-old said from experience.

Many failed just to enter a username or password.

And if that's not 100% true, nothing will work.

“Even 50-year-olds are capitulating.” His conclusion: “The smartphone is dividing society.”

Craftsman Norbert Fiedler, whose main job is a specialist in renewable energies and solar technology, took apart a defective coffee machine, among other things.

“The machine no longer pumps water,” the volunteer explained the error.

But that was quickly remedied.

“It’s great that we have such people in Gauting,” said owner Susanne Sieber.

“I'm here for the second time with my broken television,” said former Gauting resident Susanne Köhler, who now lives in Landshut.

“It’s just nice here, I meet people over coffee and cake,” said the former Green councilor happily.

She is convinced: Without the initiative of Christiane Lüst and Karl Heinz Jobst there would be no repair café in Gauting.

High school student Erik Bauer also thinks what the volunteers do makes sense.

He is 15 years old and has been there for seven years.

The big tenth anniversary celebration will not take place until November, said co-initiator Christiane Lüst.

The film “Illusion of Abundance” will probably be shown again.

The film grippingly conveys “how human rights are violated and the environment is destroyed during mining in the countries of the global south for our hunger for raw materials.”

That's why it's time "for us to use, recycle and repair all raw materials more sustainably," says the co-founder.

That is her big concern.
