The renovation of the Wessobrunn town hall has been underway for over ten years.

Work inside the listed building has been completed for some time now.

But there is still a lot to do outside and on the facade.

At the last council meeting, the planting, shutters and lighting were discussed.

Wessobrunn – “We had a meeting in mid-February about the planting,” reported Mayor Georg Guggemos.

The town hall boss, together with local councilors Erwin Köhler, Gerlinde Sterr and Richilde Kölbl as well as Manfred Koschinski from the building administration, clarified that the beds should be planted with small flowers.

Vine planting is planned on the south side.

“But no wild wine, as it causes damage to the facade,” explained Guggemos.

On the west side there is a trellis for roses.

The proposals, which cost around 7,500 euros, were unanimously approved by the local council.

Opinions about the shutters and outdoor lighting, however, were not quite as clear.

“The shutters can also be done later,” said local councilor Michael Geburek, considering the costs of a good 17,000 euros.

Since this year's budget leaves little room, Geburek pleaded for the issue to be postponed.

“We can authorize the mayor to award the contracts depending on the budget situation,” suggested Kölbl.

This idea was accepted with one vote against.

There were also a few critical voices about the planned outdoor lighting. “For me, that’s a luxury and doesn’t necessarily have to be,” said Franz Erhard.

Sterr, and also managing director Annett Bauer-Wunderlich, were clearly in favor of it.

“A parking lot must be illuminated” was their shared credo.

“Two lamps less doesn't help, either we do all of them or nothing at all,” said Geburek, who couldn't get used to a slimmed-down version that was brought into play.

Ultimately, with two votes against, the local council decided to have the lighting installed for around 10,000 euros.
