In the dispute over the location of emergency calls to 110, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior has agreed on a solution with the data protection officer.
As the ministry announced to the dpa on Monday evening, they had now agreed on a “provisional nationwide pilot operation” of the so-called AML technology, provided that the location data was used “only for assistance and not for criminal prosecution”.
Stuttgart - The police are working on the fastest possible technical implementation.
At the same time, work is being done to create a legal basis for the collection, storage and distribution of data.
Due to legal hurdles in Baden-Württemberg, the police have not yet been able to quickly trace emergency calls to 110 nationwide.
The location data from all over Germany flows centrally to Baden-Württemberg, but cannot be accessed and passed on due to the legal situation, as the Ministry of the Interior confirmed.
Technically, location is possible using the “Advanced Mobile Location” (AML) process.
When you dial the emergency call on a smartphone, various sensors such as GPS are switched on and the data is transferred automatically.
The central AML server for all of Germany is located in the Black Forest.
