The Dorfen fire department had to complete 242 missions in 2023, more than ever before.

From storms to heavy rain to snow chaos, everything was there.

Dorfen - For the first time, Dorfen's base brigade came to the well-attended general meeting in the Jakobmayer Hall.

Commander Stefan Beham reported that last year there had been “more missions than ever before”.

The causes are not clear, but may be a sign of climate change with longer heat periods, heavy rain, floods and storms.

Beham presented his annual report and referred to secretary Andreas Richter, who has put all the data online at www.feuerwehr-dorfen.de.

The active members were in action for 3,071 hours.

It was important to Beham to say a big thank you to all those who volunteer to protect citizens.

Youth officers Jan Smolko and Simon Zimmer were pleased to receive praise for their work, and extra praise was given for the “important support” of employers who release employees for missions.

With 242, in 2023 they had the “highest number of deployments in the history of Dorfen’s fire department”.

In 2014 there were 119, and this year there have already been more than 40 trips.

One reason is storms, storms, heavy rain, drought, field fires or even 40 centimeters of snow overnight.

But with the very well-trained active people we are prepared.

Together with the nine local fire departments, daytime alarm security could also be guaranteed and even difficult operations could be managed.

The Dorfen youth fire brigade is one of the most active in the district, as the report by youth warden Smolko showed.

For years, the group has had 20 to 22 young people who are well prepared for active service.

Last year there were eight female and 15 male members.

“We are in a stable position,” reported Smolko.

The “highly motivated and committed” youth group is also the basis for a secure future for the Dorfen military base.

At the age of 18, four youth fire brigade members switched to the active team in 2023.

Mayor Heinz Grundner emphasized that the volunteer services of the military base deserve “great respect, great recognition and great thanks”.

In “213 live operations,” life and property of people in the city were protected or saved at any time of the day.

As far as financially possible, the city ensures the best possible conditions and equipment for the ten Dorfen weirs.

Grundner is “not entirely comfortable” with the approximately 19 million euros “that will be invested in fire and disaster protection over the next ten years.

But things have to be done.” “A good mix of generations ensures professional emergency response,” said the city boss.

As the fire brigade with the most operational capacity in its inspection area, Dorfen is “the measure of all things, not just in the city,” district fire inspector Richard Obermaier agreed with the praise.

242 missions per year are “enormous” and show “what the fire department can achieve”.

The issue of climate/weather change with snow, water, wind, drought and forest fires will concern the fire departments even more in the future: “We have to be prepared for everything and master everything.”

Obermaier also thanked for the good cooperation, which is particularly evident in the joint procurement of three new turntable ladders for Dorfen, Taufkirchen and Isen, “which, if everything goes well, we can inaugurate in 2028”.

According to Beham, the city of Dorfen has to expect costs of one million euros.

But by buying together you save money.

Dorfen's district fire chief Rudolf Hohenadl took the opportunity to thank the fire departments for their support in his training courses.

At the end there was also a thank you from the club chairman Günther Fichtner for the good cooperation and solidarity in the armed forces.

It also offers social engagement, such as the popular lantern festival or the Christmas party with the “Markus” sponsor group from the Algasing residential and nursing home for people with disabilities.

Before honoring numerous members for their many years of active service, Fichtner announced that he would not run in next year's elections.
