From April there will be a new department for vascular surgery and vascular medicine in the Ebersberg district clinic.

Dr.

med.

Heiko Wendorff will lead it as chief physician.

The hospital announced this on Monday.

Ebersberg

- The 46-year-old was most recently managing senior physician and member of the management board of the Clinic and Polyclinic for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the Rechts der Isar Clinic at the Technical University of Munich.

New department for vascular surgery

Until now, vascular surgery in the district clinic was part of the general, visceral and vascular surgery department of chief physician Dr.

Peter Kreissl.

Under the leadership of chief physician Heiko Wendorff, vascular surgery and vascular medicine will be a separate department from April 1st.

“I’m looking forward to my new role in the district clinic and working with the other departments in the hospital,” says Wendorff.

Wendorff is a specialist in vascular surgery and an endovascular surgeon and endovascular specialist certified by the German Society for Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine (DGG).

At the Rechts der Isar Hospital he treated the entire spectrum of vascular surgery.

He is also a phlebologist, i.e. a specialist in venous diseases.

“In Dr.

Heiko Wendorff, we have gained an experienced, highly specialized and at the same time technically innovative chief physician for the Ebersberg district clinic.

With vascular surgery and medicine, he is strengthening a discipline whose importance will grow in the next few years due to demographic change.

Together with him, the district clinic can be even better there for people in the region with corresponding illnesses,” says Stefan Huber, managing director of the district clinic, about the new addition to the team.

Close cooperation

The medical discipline of vascular surgery and vascular medicine deals with diseases of arteries, veins and lymphatic vessels - they form the vascular system.

Removing arteriosclerotic vascular deposits, creating vascular bypasses and removing vascular constrictions using catheters are common vascular medicine interventions.

Together with his team, Wendorff will primarily treat circulatory disorders in the legs (intermittent claudication), narrowing of the carotid arteries (carotid stenosis), diseases of the thoracic and abdominal arteries (aortic aneurysm, AAA) and varicose vein disease (varicosis).

In addition, the vascular accesses for dialysis patients can now be surgically created directly in the district clinic.

His department will work closely with other departments, in particular radiology under chief physician Marco Heinz and the team of chief physician Peter Kreissl.

Hybrid operating room in planning

In addition to drug therapy, there are minimally invasive catheter procedures and open surgical methods in vascular medicine.

The combination of the latter two is known as so-called hybrid operations.

A special hybrid operating room is being planned at the district clinic for these hybrid operations.

“Above all, personal care for patients from the first contact in the consultation until discharge is very important to me.

In addition to a high technical and medical level, humanity is particularly important.

The patients should feel like they are in good hands and are treated according to the latest state of the art,” says Heiko Wendorff.

The doctor grew up and went to school in the Rosenheim district.

He completed his medical studies at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, the Technical University of Munich and the University of Verona.

The 46-year-old lives with his family in the Rosenheim district; his wife Carina Wendorff works as an orthodontist in the community of Kirchseeon.
