The meadows south of the commercial area are often flooded when it rains.
Flood protection therefore plays an important role in a Gaplast expansion.

In recent years, the Gaplast company has already significantly expanded its location in Peiting.
Now the next expansion is apparently coming up.
Peiting - As building authority employee Bettina Maeße explained, the requested change is about creating the basis for the full expansion that the company is now aiming for.
The plans for this are not new.
The packaging specialist for medical, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products had already presented possible expansion scenarios in 2016.
A part has already been implemented.
At that time, the first step was to expand the existing building in order to increase office capacity.
Four years later, Gaplast invested heavily again when construction began on two additional halls in September 2020 with a production area of almost 5,100 square meters as well as space for a social wing and building services.
The company spent 18 million euros on the expansion in Peiting, which had also become necessary because there was a lack of appropriate space at the headquarters in Altenau.
Gaplast before the next expansion?
– The company wants to further expand its location in Peiting
Before the next expansion plans can be implemented and the excavators can roll, building rights must first be created.
The corresponding expansion area in the south was already taken into account in the land use plan in 2019, said Maeße.
However, not without conditions.
Since part of it is designated as a flood area, the company would have to create retention compensation when expanding, explained the building authority employee when asked about this by Norbert Merk (CSU).
This was coordinated with the water management office at the time.
The compensation should take place south of the company premises.
How exactly will be determined in the further process, says Maeße when asked by the local newspaper.
In 2019, creating a trough was mentioned as a possible solution to catch the water (we reported).
The company is keeping quiet about further information
Thomas Elste, on the other hand, was interested at the meeting in how the further expansion would affect the number of parking spaces required.
But Maeße had to put off the Green council.
Nothing can be said about this until Gaplast's detailed planning is available.
The family business itself is currently keeping a low profile.
When asked what exactly is to be built at the Peitingen location, whether the expansion will create additional jobs and what the schedule for implementing the project looks like, Gaplast said that no precise information could be given yet.
We are only in the planning phase.
The packaging specialist currently employs 310 people at both locations.
