Green splashes of color in the many grays

Highlights: Geretsried – Fitim Krasniqi and his employees planted four specimens of each species in three beds between the bus stop, Rossmann and Aldi. The city council didn't waste any time and ordered trees up to five meters high. In addition to the trees, there are also ground cover and perennials such as asters, anemones, columbines and poppies. The trees blooming from April/May and the flowers will not only look beautiful, they are also a good source of food for bees and other insects.

What many Geretsrieders have long wanted for the city center: a nursery planting trees, ground cover and perennials on Egerlandstrasse.

Mobile plant troughs will be added in May.

Geretsried

– Fitim Krasniqi distributes cubic meters of fresh, black earth around a rock pear.

When the root ball is completely covered, he pats everything down with the shovel.

The managing director of the Dachau nursery Green Unit calls the multi-stemmed tree Amalanchier, just as he also uses the Latin term Acer campestre for the field maple that grows in the same planting island.

Over the weekend, Krasniqi and his employees planted four specimens of each species in three beds between the bus stop, Rossmann and Aldi in the center.

Rock pear costs between 2500 and 3000 euros

In addition to the trees, there are also ground cover and perennials such as asters, anemones, columbines and poppies.

Soon it will be green and colorful on Egerlandstrasse, which means that the city is fulfilling a wish that has been expressed many times by its citizens.

The city council didn't waste any time and ordered trees up to five meters high.

According to Krasniqi, a rock pear of this size costs between 2,500 and 3,000 euros.

The two selected species are particularly suitable for inner cities because of their growth habit and root balls.

“They are robust to heat and drought and their roots are shallow,” explains the Green Unit boss.

The latter is important because the underground car park is directly beneath the plant islands.

In addition, mobile plant troughs are to be set up again at Karl-Lederer-Platz and Egerlandstrasse, collectively known as the T-Zone.

After the Ice Saints it starts.

The trees blooming from April/May and the flowers will not only look beautiful, they are also a good source of food for bees and other insects.

Benches will be set up around the islands.

All of this is intended to improve the quality of stay in the Neue Mitte.

On Saturday, some passers-by stopped to look at the planting event.

Sabine Burger and her boyfriend Martin Wiedenmann live in the center above the Rialto ice cream parlor, so they will be able to look at a little green from their window every day.

“I really like it,” says Wiedenmann.

“It will certainly help to beautify the street.” He just hopes that the plants don’t also fall victim to vandalism, like the toilets in the underground car park (we reported).

The resident says he personally has nothing against surveillance cameras.

For the former mayor, eight trees are not enough

Hans Schmid and his wife Gabi also got a glimpse of the innovation during their Saturday stroll.

“Trees are always good,” says the former mayor.

“I doubt whether eight of them can actually distract from all the concrete,” adds the gardener, who doesn’t think the T-zone is particularly successful.

Wolfram Weiße sits with his dog on the edge of the fountain in front of Aldi and waits for his wife to come back from shopping.

The Geretsried artist is also not very euphoric: “Overall, I’m not enthusiastic about the redesign of the center,” says the culture prize winner.

“The architecture is boring.

But I see that an effort is being made to liven things up.”

Sibylla Köhler, who lives on Fasanenweg, is pleased that trees, perennials and flowers will soon provide splashes of color in the gray.

The Geretsried resident, who says she has lived in the city for 75 years, can “imagine taking a tour of the new center with friends in the spring.

What is still missing is a nice restaurant that is also open in the evening.”

In October 2014, the redesign of Geretsried's living room began under architect Klaus Kehrbaum with initial ideas and planning.

The people from Geretsried were able to take part in workshops.

After a long construction period due to corona, the Neue Mitte opened in July last year.

The city is trying to “further develop the center in the interests of the population,” she writes on her Facebook page.

For this purpose, a “doer pool” was created.
