Unexpectedly, the Gaumont cinema became the subject of public debate and confrontation between those who want to defend national film production and those who maintain that it is an emblem of the oversized National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA).
And, apparently, he ended up facing one of the biggest figures on television with President Javier Milei.
Mirtha Legrand
, who before hosting her lunches and dinners on television knew how to be one of the biggest stars on the national big screen, took the side of those who defend the historic room in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Congreso.
“What can it cost to maintain the Gaumont cinema?
"It's terrible," the diva started saying on Saturday night on her program on the América channel.
“I went recently and it is in splendid condition, it's a shame.
And the Film Institute thing too.
If there is someone who stole, outside.
No more credits are given to that one,” La Chiqui continued, establishing a position on an issue that distances her from the official position, with which she has shown more than ideological sympathy.
What a great gesture it would be for Mirtha to buy the Gaumont, for it to be renamed Cine GAUMONT-LEGRAND and for it to show only Argentine films.
A milestone that would exalt her, and that would contribute to changing the bad image that Argentines have of her own cultural references https://t.co/co9z7uNm1f

Political scientist Julio Burdman listened to the host's words, and launched a novel proposal to solve the future of the conflicted room.
"What a great gesture it would be for Mirtha to buy the Gaumont, for it to be renamed Cine GAUMONT-LEGRAND and for it to show only Argentine films. A milestone that would exalt her, and that would contribute to changing the bad image that Argentines have of their own cultural references," Burdman wrote on his X social network account.
The proposal caught on among network users, and garnered a very special support:
that of Javier Mile
i himself, who in the midst of his profuse activity in cyberspace decided to republish Burdman's proposal, giving it his explicit support.
It remains to be seen if the presidential support makes the proposal move forward and not just a mocking chicanery from an X user. Or if Mirtha Legrand herself picks up the gauntlet and offers to buy the room to guarantee its operation.
