Entrance to the Partnachklamm in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is becoming more expensive.

The majority of the market town council decided to increase the prices.

The decision was not without controversy.

GAP - It's the same everywhere: prices are rising, be it for food, housing or leisure activities.

Many people have no choice but to seriously rethink their spending and income.

The market town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is no different.

She sees an opportunity for more income in increasing the entry prices for the Partnachklamm.

However, the finance committee's proposed price list met with clear opposition at the most recent meeting of the market town council, especially from the SPD.

The increase in prices for children in particular caused outrage - because they will soon have to pay five euros instead of the previous three euros to visit the gorge.

Heated discussion

SPD councilor Kathrin Rotter-Heinle proposed a family card - but this raised many questions, for example how “family” should be defined.

When Alexandra Roos-Teitscheid (Greens) pointed out that such an offer already existed in the form of a holiday pass, Rotter-Heinle replied that this offer was limited to the summer holidays, which she saw as insufficient.

The SPD councilor would like to continue to fight for “socially disadvantaged families” because there are families who “simply cannot afford” a trip to the Partnachklamm.

The cost problem still remains: the Partnach Gorge, its maintenance and, above all, the increasingly expensive safety precautions must be financed.

At the same meeting, among other things, an early release of budget funds amounting to 90,000 euros for rockfall protection nets in the gorge was unanimously approved.

Maintaining the gorge costs the community considerable sums, which is why many in the market town council believe the price increase is justified.

The amount of back and forth during the votes on this proposal caused noticeable frustration in the meeting room, especially since this is not the first time that the Partnachklamm has caused bitter debates in the committee.

“It's the same every time, especially when it comes to the Partnachklamm,” complained the visibly annoyed Mayor Elisabeth Koch (CSU).

New prices from May

In the end, the price proposal from the finance committee in the market town council was accepted with 16 votes to nine.

The entrance fee to the Partnachklamm will probably be increased from May.

Local visitors should pay 8.50 euros.
