A group of 200 Colombian women have turned to emerald mining in search of an opportunity to escape poverty.
In Coscuez, 200 kilometers from Bogotá, the miners do not receive a fixed salary and work in unsafe conditions.
Difficult working conditions are further complicated by conflicts between paramilitary gangs and drug trafficking cartels.
Currently, this group of miners is seeking state certification that will allow them to formalize their activities and access better living conditions.
