The crime near Neuschwanstein Castle caused a stir.
Now there could be a risk of a new trial; the defense has filed an appeal.
Füssen - The murder in the Allgäu tourist hotspot at Neuschwanstein Castle made many headlines.
Now the next round of legal processing in Karlsruhe could begin.
After a 31-year-old US citizen was sentenced to life in prison for a violent crime against two women near Neuschwanstein Castle, defense attorneys have filed an appeal.
This was announced on Monday, March 18th by a spokesman for the Kempten Regional Court.
If the appeal is not withdrawn, the Federal Court of Justice would have to deal with the case.

The defendant admitted to attacking the 21 and 22 year old women in June 2023 during a hike near the Marienbrücke in Schwangau, a popular meeting point for tourists near the castle.
He choked and raped the younger woman and pushed both women down a slope about 50 meters deep.
The 21-year-old died after a few hours in the hospital, while the older woman survived injured.

The man and the two women happened to meet during the hike and exchanged a few words.

Appeal against verdict for murder at Neuschwanstein Castle
In contrast to the court, the man's lawyers had only assessed the act on the older woman, the pushing into the ravine, as dangerous bodily harm and not as attempted murder.
The defense attorneys also tried to prevent a determination of the particular gravity of the guilt in order to allow for possible parole after 15 years.
