Several times questioned by the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi (Horizons), the deputy for the 1st constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes, Éric Ciotti (Les Républicains), and the dean of the Nice faculty of medicine, the Ministry of Health has finally responded favorably to alerts about the lack of doctors in training on part of the Côte d'Azur.
In a letter dated March 15 addressed to the councilor and the parliamentarian, Minister Catherine Vautrin announced
“a substantial increase in positions to be opened”
and put forward the number of
“50 positions in 2025 and 2026”
.
There will also be no drop in the number of interns for the current year, the minister also promises.
Besides Nice, this subdivision also includes the towns of Draguignan and Fréjus, in the Var, but also Cannes, Grasse, Antibes and Menton for the Alpes-Maritimes, making it one of the largest in France with nearly 1, 2 million inhabitants.
A target of 282 intern positions in total in 2027 was set by the Minister of Labor, Health and Solidarity.
Additional arms and brains that will help the different hospitals function better.

“as a priority for specialties in shortage”
, added Catherine Vautrin in her letter.
A year ago, Christian Estrosi was already worried about the distribution of the number of medical interns to the detriment of the Nice faculty and that of Marseille.
“Fifth city in France and 26th in the ranking of internal residents, Nice needed a major response
,” he said.
For Éric Ciotti, the first to welcome this good news, it is

The previous Minister of Health, Aurélien Rousseau, was committed to this necessary reinforcement for the subdivision of Nice, where the supply of care is decreasing while demand continues to increase (more inhabitants, aging population).

to the situation in the Riviera by the national observatory of the demography of health professions.
It is still considering, in conjunction with the regional health agency of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region (ARS Paca), to offer
