The Classics season has barely started, Mathieu Van der Poel has already assured his long-term future.

At 29, the Dutch world champion (road and cyclocross) has extended his contract with Alpecin-Deceuninck until 2028.

The grandson of Raymond Poulidor has also signed a ten-year partnership with the Canyon bicycle brand.

“Maybe five years as a runner, then the others as an ambassador,” he slipped during the official announcement this Monday, two days after helping his teammate Jasper Philipsen to win Milan – San Remo of which he was the title holder.

“Everything is possible”

Regarding his near future, however, Mathieu Van der Poel has not yet cleared up all the questions.

Which event will he compete in this summer during the Paris Olympics (July 26 – August 11)?

“I don’t know yet,” he confides.

Will I do the road race (August 3), the mountain bike (July 29) or both?

We will make the decision after the Classics.

For the moment, everything is possible.
