There is an agreement in the tariff dispute for local public transport (ÖPNV) in Brandenburg.

Further warning strikes are now off the table in the state, as the Verdi union and the Brandenburg Municipal Employers Association (KAV) announced on Monday.

The employees therefore receive more money in two stages.

The fees should increase by 13 percent, but at least by 340 euros on January 1st.

Berlin - July this year increase, it was said.

There will be a further two percent more on January 1, 2025. Employees in the transport service, especially bus drivers, will also receive an allowance of five euros for each day in driving and on-call service.

The agreement therefore applies to 14 transport companies that are part of the KAV.

The union is now seeking an identical agreement with individual regional companies.

“With the agreement, we have achieved a noticeable increase in salaries for the drivers,” said Verdi negotiator Jens Gröger on Monday.

“This now makes it more attractive to work in driving services.

We hope that this will succeed in attracting more employees to local public transport and thus reduce the workload for the employees.”

KAV managing director Jens Schubert said: “We have succeeded in establishing and expanding performance-related elements in the collective agreement, so that the performance principle is taken into account to a greater extent than before.”

The Verdi union had twice paralyzed large parts of public transport in several Brandenburg cities and municipalities with warning strikes in the collective bargaining dispute.

The federal state is one of 15 in which Verdi fought for new collective agreements at the same time.

While the focus there was generally on better working conditions, in Brandenburg higher wages were also negotiated.

There is currently no agreement in Berlin.

Verdi will continue negotiations there with the Berlin public transport company at the end of March.
