Munich - A roof terrace, restaurants and offices: The plans for the old Galeria Kaufhof building are becoming more concrete.

There are already the first pictures of how the architects imagine the new building.

The Kaufhof am Stachus has existed for over 70 years.

But it has been empty since Galeria moved out in 2022.

But the owners, the Zechbauer family, want to make the building fit for the next 70 years.

A mammoth project is planned - but no longer a department store.

A floor-by-floor use is conceivable for the 23,000 square meters: shops below, offices above, a hotel above and, at the top, a roof terrace open to the public.

Tricky: Not only is the facade protected, but also the reinforced concrete structure inside.

“It wasn’t visible until now,” said Michael Zechbauer just a few weeks ago.

Even back then, the house owner claims to have heard positive signals from the town hall after extensive discussions with the monument protection department, the building department and the mayor.

It is difficult to say when the plans will become reality.

Even if there were a building permit this year, completion would probably not be expected before 2026.
