The Starnberg Marionette Theater has finally separated from the city and founded its own association.

In this way, the donor's wish for around 300 puppets will be fulfilled.

Starnberg –

The Starnberg Marionette Theater has been standing on its own two feet since Sunday.

Twelve puppeteers took the reins themselves and founded the Starnberger Marionettentheater eV association at the adult education center.

With the official founding of the association, the puppet theater finally broke away from the city of Starnberg, to which it had been tied since 1986.

It's been almost 40 years since Dr.

Arnulf Gnam came to the office of Starnberg's former mayor Heribert Thallmair and donated 300 puppet figures to the city of Starnberg.

Under one condition: the dolls are played and do not end up in the depot.

The city then founded the Starnberg Marionette Theater.

“I was very touched that Dr.

“Gnam was able to watch the first performances myself,” said Heribert Thallmair on Sunday.

“The promise we made to him back then is still being kept today.” Gerhard Weiß, director of the theater workshop “i piccoli” and winner of the Schwabing Culture Prize, also agreed.

“The figures don’t belong in the depot.

They die there.

“It’s like a coffin for the characters,” says Weiß.

The puppet theater puts on a play once a year.

But now the city has to save, says player Uwe Mertsch.

This also leaves less money for cultural institutions such as the puppet theater.

“We previously managed to build up reserves despite difficult times,” says Thallmair.

“These reserves are now gone.” The members of the puppet theater turned to Starnberg’s second mayor, Angelika Kammerl.

“I got a cry for help,” said Kammerl.

“I was informed that there was no more money and that the theater could not be continued.”

Dietmar Köstler takes over as chairman

She then came up with the idea of founding an official, independent, non-profit association that finances itself independently of the city through membership fees and donations.

Now she is a member of the Starnberger Marionette Theater association, which had its first meeting on Sunday.

Dietmar Köstler takes over as the first board member and Susanne Oberhauser-Knott as the second board member.

Also a founding member is Dieter Heinze from the Starnberg Art Association, and Dr.

Michael Köhle represented the Franz Graf von Pocci Society (Münsing).

To celebrate the day, the members performed a short piece.

“I just really enjoy bringing a character to life,” said Margit Hofstetter.

She herself thinks up pieces for the marionette theater.

“My pieces always have a connection to Starnberg,” says Hofstetter.

Along with Uwe Mertsch, she is the only club member who has been there since 1986.

Mertsch even builds puppets himself. A figure has nine strings as standard, which also requires good coordination and a lot of practice on the part of the players.

The club members are motivated for the coming years.

Projects such as a mobile stage and performances in other locations are planned.
