At the end of every news program there is a moderation - but this was quite unusual for “ZDF today” spokeswoman Barbara Hahlweg on Monday (March 18th).
Mainz – A good moderation is worth its weight in gold, but it doesn’t always work.
“ZDF today” spokeswoman Barbara Hahlweg (55) also knows this.
The Erlangen-born journalist led the 7 p.m. edition of the news program with her usual confidence on Monday evening (March 18) and had actually already said goodbye when she caused a strange scene in the last few meters.
Curious: Moderation on “ZDF today” ends with incomprehensible gibberish
A final “heute” article, which reported on a new work of art by the British street artist Banksy, was followed by Barbara Hahlweg’s outlook on the night edition of the news: “At a quarter to ten, Christian Sievers welcomes you to the ‘heute journal’.
We wish you a nice evening.
See you tomorrow if you like.
Goodbye,” she moderated the show.
At this point the weather should actually follow.
Shortly before the fade-out, you could hear Barbara Hahlweg continuing to speak - but her words weren't really understandable: Instead, the ZDF viewers heard gibberish whose first syllables ("Stogeldistogel") didn't make any sense.
Seconds later, Hahlweg could no longer be heard, but she noticed her faux pas.
Amused, but no less embarrassed, she held her hand over her mouth during the final camera shot.
No reactions: Barbara Hahlweg's “ZDF today” blunder ignored online
What this unusual moderation was all about was not clear from the “ZDF today” broadcast.
The funny scene can also be found in the station's online media library (around 22:22 minutes).
Unlike other mishaps, it was not cut from the news edition.
What was unusual, however, was that Barbara Hahlweg's mistake appeared to have only been noticed by very few spectators.
At
X
, where such errors are otherwise extensively discussed, things remained quiet.
What “Stogedistoge” means was not clear from the “ZDF today” moderation - however, Barbara Hahlweg noticed quite quickly that the strange end of her moderation had still made it into the broadcast.

According to
dwdl.de
, “ZDF today” was the fourth most-watched program on Monday with 3.66 million viewers.
A correspondingly broad audience should have noticed Barbara Hahlweg's fantasy speech.
There's also a lot going on on private television: Once again, Sat.1 is completely overhauling its afternoon program.
