A worker aged around 45 died in the early afternoon after falling more than three meters in via Carpenara, in Genoa Pegli. The causes of the fatal accident are still to be clarified.

The 118 emergency services intervened immediately on the spot, with the medical vehicle, but there was nothing that could be done for the man.

The investigations are in the hands of ASL3 inspectors and the police.

"He didn't have to come to work today. He had to run other errands."

This is what Chokri Bouhali's wife said.

The worker, a Tunisian who has been living in Italy for 25 years, leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter. He lived with his family in Pegli.

According to initial information, the man fell from the roof while working.

Chokri Bouhali had previously worked as a craftsman and handyman for other colleagues and a few years ago he had opened his VAT number to work on his own.

Today's construction site was one of the most important jobs he was carrying out in this period.

The brother arrived first at the site, which is located on the hills in the open countryside, and loaded him onto his three-wheeler to take him to the main road more quickly.

Attempts to resuscitate him by 118 were useless.

"He didn't have the safety equipment"

Chokri Bouhal would not have had the safety equipment required for working at heights.

According to what his brother stated, Bouhali was wearing neither a harness nor a helmet and slipped from the sloping roof, falling more than 9 metres.

A friend who was at the scene immediately raised the alarm.

Chokri's brother arrived with a small three-wheeler and took him to the main road where the ambulance had arrived in the meantime.

Resuscitation efforts were useless, Bouhali died shortly afterwards.

Cisl Liguria "more prevention needed"

"Genoa mourns another life lost in the workplace. It is a massacre that the repeated appeals for compliance with safety regulations and an increase in inspections evidently fail to stop. Today is the day of sorrow: the CISL family rallies around that of the worker who died in Pegli".

Thus a note was made by the general secretary of the CISL Liguria Luca Maestripieri and the head of the Ast CISL of Genoa Marco Granara.

"Today is not just a loss that affects the entire world of work: it is an event unworthy of a civilized country. We are convinced that it is necessary to invest more in prevention, increasing the number of inspectors and promoting good employment contracts to the detriment of precarious contracts - concludes the note -. It is very important, then, both to build the loyalty of workers, involving them in the decision-making processes of companies, making them count more than is the case today, and to encourage the culture of safety and legality in companies, training institutions and schools".

Uil "enough is enough, serious measures immediately"

"No more fatal accidents at work: we need to invest in prevention, inspection, training".

Thus in a note Emanuele Ronzoni, extraordinary commissioner of Uil Liguria and Mirko Trapasso, general secretary Feneal Uil Liguria comment on the death of the worker who fell from the roof of a building.

"On the day in which our representatives for safety at work met in Florence, a worker dies in Genoa due to a fall from a height. We are tired of counting every month the workers who lose their lives in cause of the chase for profit. While waiting to understand what the causes of this afternoon's fatal accident were, and for light to be shed on the classification of the deceased worker, it is necessary to open a discussion table with the local institutions to prosecute any conduct that jeopardizes health and safety in the workplace".

According to Uil "serious legal measures are needed and local institutions will have to urge, together with us, a Government that is still too lukewarm on the issue. We need to introduce homicide at work immediately and create a special prosecutor's office to deal with fatal accidents - writes Uil - all strong measures but which serve to put people's lives before everything, rather than profit. We ask for respect for the reference contracts, training, fight against illegal and gray work and resources available for an all-out fight against irregularities in cascade contracts .

CGIL 'the massacre at work does not stop'

"The massacre at work shows no signs of stopping, last year in Genoa 6 fatal accidents at work were recorded, this year according to the latest available Inail data there are already two in just a few months ".

Thus the CGIL Genoa and Fillea CGIL Genoa and Liguria commented on the death of a worker aged around 45 in Genoa Pegli after falling from a scaffolding from over three metres.

The CGIL expresses "heartfelt condolences to the relatives and colleagues of the victim".

For the union "the responsibilities for the massacre are precise: lack of investments for prevention, control and repression combined with the frantic pursuit of profit to which companies are subjected, the cascading effects of subcontracting. Therefore the CGIL has asked for introduction of the crime of homicide at work".

Just today in Florence the delegates of CGIL and UIL met on the issues of safety at work and two mobilizations were scheduled: the CGIL and UIL strike proclamation for 11 April and the national demonstration on 20 April organized by CGIL and UIL on health, safety and tax issues.
