Earth Hour is taking place for the 18th time.

The city of Nuremberg is also participating in the WWF campaign on March 23, 2024.

Nuremberg - During Earth Hour 2024 of the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF), people around the world are setting an example for more climate protection.

The city of Nuremberg is also there again, as is the energy supplier N-Ergie.

“Turn the lights off for an hour”: the city of Nuremberg takes part in Earth Hour

“The public space service company Nuremberg (Sör), which is responsible for street lighting and the illumination of historical buildings, will turn off the lights for one hour on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 8:30 p.m.,” the city said in a press release.

Landmarks such as the Lorenz Church, the Beautiful Fountain and the Imperial Castle then remain dark.

According to the city, more than 800 headlights will be switched off at around 60 properties.

However, the street lights remain switched on for safety reasons.

For the campaign, N-Ergie switches off, among other things, the lighting in the high-rise building on Plärrer.

Mayor and first Sör plant manager, Christian Vogel, calls on citizens to also get involved.

“Participating in Earth Hour is an important step in raising awareness of climate change and emphasizing our responsibility to protect our environment.

By turning off our lights, we send a clear message that we are willing to work together for a more sustainable future.

We must not forget: Each of us can contribute to protecting the climate, both large and small.

True to the motto 'Light switch off, climate protection on.'”
