Maurine delicately feels Onyx's paw.
The veterinary assistant searches, with some difficulty, for the vein of this five-year-old Newfoundland hidden under its thick black and white fur.
Sitting quietly, the imposing dog does not flinch while Maurine shaves part of her paw.
“We are going to take a blood test to see if she is in good health.
And if the results are good, she will be able to donate her blood
,” explains Maurine, responsible for blood donation at the Hopia veterinary clinic, in Guyancourt in Yvelines.
Unrest is felt around Onyx.
Veterinarians are busy between emergencies and scheduled operations.
A hamster had to be euthanized due to a growth on its ear, as well as a dog who had a blood clot near his bladder, preventing him from doing his business.
Yet Onyx remains unfazed.
Since she was two years old, the Newfoundland has been donating blood.
