Dejan Glavas.- Like any human activity, artificial intelligence (AI) has an environmental impact.
This impact is complex to measure because it is currently difficult to distinguish the increase in electricity consumption generated by AI, compared to the rest of digital activity.
Relatively stable since 2010, data centers represent 1% of global electricity demand.
This does not mean that we use digital tools in the same proportions as fourteen years ago... Our uses are undoubtedly increasing.
However, data centers have, until today, been increasingly energy efficient, which has made it possible to offset the increase in demand through the electrification of uses, particularly in industry.
