Even an apparently simple gesture, such as turning off the light, is a contribution to a future of well-being for people and the planet".


    "Since the first edition in 2007 which involved the city of Sydney alone - we read on the initiative's website - the great wave of darkness has rapidly spread to every corner of the planet, leaving squares, streets and symbolic monuments such as the Colosseum, Piazza Navona in darkness , Christ the Redeemer in Rio, the Eiffel Tower, the Bosphorus Bridge and many other symbolic places, to demonstrate that united we can make a big difference."


    In Rome - announces the WWF - the lights of the Colosseum, of Piazza San Pietro, the external lights of the Quirinale Palace, of Palazzo Madama, of Palazzo Montecitorio and of Palazzo Chigi will be turned off.

In Venice the lights of Piazza San Marco will go out, in Ledro the lights of the Pile Dwelling Museum, in Turin the lights of the Mole Antonelliana and the monumental bridges over the river Po, in Padua the lights of the portico of Palazzo Moroni, of Piazzadei Signori, of Piazza dei Frutti , Piazza delle Erbe, the external lights of Palazzo Capitanio and via 8 February;

in Florence the lights of Ponte Vecchio and Torre di Arnolfo, Piazzale Michelangelo, the Basilica of Santa Croce, the Abbey of San Miniato and the Duomo;

in Trento the lights of the Muse exhibition spaces: these are just some examples of the 80 companies that have chosen to join the initiative.


    The Presidency of the Republic also takes part in the event: the external Gala lights of the Quirinale and the Courtyard of Honor will be turned off from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.


    An appeal also came from the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres "together - he says - let's turn off the lights and take the world towards a brighter future for everyone".
