There was no way around it: the old linden tree in Ascholding had to be felled.

Now a young tree is growing on the church square.

Ascholding - There was no way around it: the old linden tree that stood on the church square in Ascholding for many years had to give way to a younger one.

“It simply became too dangerous because branches kept falling down,” says Mayor Josef Hauser, also in view of the fact that there is a bus stop right next to it that is mainly used by school children.

Baum had to leave for safety reasons

He himself can remember the old linden tree well: “Our schoolhouse used to be where the bus shelter is today.” For two years, the head of the community went to school there himself and passed the impressive tree almost every day.

“Even back then it was big and powerful and, in our eyes, ancient.” You can still see some of it as the background in old class photos.

When it became clear that the tree was getting old and could no longer be maintained for the aforementioned safety reasons, the community launched an appeal.

“We wanted to have a linden tree here again,” said Hauser.

Winter linden tree costs 2000 euros

15 donors were quickly found who were willing to donate around 2,000 euros for a new winter lime tree.

It has now been planted.

“It is about 20 years old, seven to eight meters high and has a trunk circumference of 45 centimeters,” says Hauser, describing the “new one”.

The Fellner tree nursery from Dietramszell took over the planting.

The Ascholding Horticultural Association wants to ensure that the linden tree is supplied with sufficient water, especially during the growing phase.

There will also be a plaque with the names of the donors - Stefan Thiel, Birgit Fischer, Thomas Kranz, Christina and Harald Schiller, Florian Magerl, Josef Harrer, Yuriy Popelny, Marion Fricke, Angelika Fuchs, Ascholding Horticultural Association, Cordula Allgäuer, Matthias Locher, Josefine Hahn , Agnes Seestaller and Mats Eckle – must be installed in a place protected from wind and weather.

This was designed by the painter Elisabeth Gschwendtner.
