In France, noisy outdoor activities are regulated by law, in particular by the Public Health Code, and more specifically articles R1334-31 et seq.
Lawn mowing and the legislative framework
Furthermore, Law No. 92-1444 of December 31, 1992 and its implementing decrees lay the foundations for the fight against
noise pollution,
including that produced by mowing lawns or grass.
These texts aim to preserve both the environment and public tranquility by penalizing excessive noise, potentially punishable by fines.
However, the legislation does not stop there.
The question remains complex, because other local regulations can sometimes be added to these national texts.
Indeed, a mayor can establish a specific policy to combat
neighborhood noise
in his municipality.
The same goes for residents of horizontal co-ownerships, whose internal regulations may include specific provisions concerning noise.
It is therefore imperative that you find out beforehand.

Are we allowed to mow on Sunday?
As you will have understood, the answer to this question is:
yes, under certain conditions.
At the local level, every voice counts: prefectural decrees, supplemented by municipal directives, specify the time periods during which noisy work is authorized.
Generally speaking, the slots are fixed:
From 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on working days;
Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.;
Sundays and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Informing yourself about local regulations in force, which could modify these times, remains your responsibility.
So you can garden completely legally!
