Calm and smooth as the entire construction site: This was the Hebauf celebration for the south extension on the grounds of the MS Clinic in Kempfenhausen.

Builders and craftsmen celebrated a “construction site straight out of a picture book”.

Kempfenhausen

– Quick, but unhurried, goal-oriented and characterized by a good mood: This is how you can imagine the work on the construction site in Kempfenhausen.

The MS Clinic is building in several locations.

On Thursday there was a topping-out ceremony for the so-called south extension, in which therapy rooms, a large training room and patient rooms are being built.

The Marianne Strauss Clinic site has been being converted and expanded for years.

Among other things, a four-story building was added to the south of the main house.

The shell is complete – something the building owners and the commissioned companies celebrated.

Senior foreman Bernd Herrmann gave the topping-out sentence, thanked everyone and, according to old tradition, threw a wine glass he had drunk onto the floor.

“Shards bring luck,” he said.

Those responsible have obviously been lucky with the construction site so far.

Florian Wagner, who coordinates all construction work for the clinic as a campus developer, is extremely satisfied.

He praised the friendly approach and the reliable execution of the work.

“We are on schedule, even though we had a three-week winter break.” Clinic managing director Jürgen Schneider is also satisfied.

“We had no mishaps and no injuries on the site,” he said.

Spacious one- and two-bed rooms are planned for the extension for patients suffering from multiple sclerosis.

These also include so-called lock rooms, “if a patient has the Noro virus or Corona,” explained Wagner.

As in the new ward in the old building, the rooms were designed with the needs of MS patients, most of whom have limited mobility, in mind.

Wagner cited the balcony door as an example.

“It’s narrower than usual.

This means that when it’s open, it doesn’t protrude as far into the room.”

There is 256 square meters of space on the ground floor of the new part of the building for muscle building.

Devices are set up there.

The changing rooms are in the basement and all floors are connected via an elevator.

How sensitively the new building is connected to the existing building can be seen from the elevator shaft: it is only because of Wagner's note that it is possible to see where the edge of the roof of the neighboring building ran.

Shell construction for new day clinic completed

The second current construction site on the site is on the former parking deck near the main entrance.

The new day clinic is being built in the so-called north extension, the shell of which is almost finished.

“The day clinic is getting a flat roof, all that’s left to do is put the lid on it,” explained Wagner.

The day clinic is currently integrated into the clinic's operations because additional rooms are being created at its old location in the nursing home further to the southwest.

The new nursing rooms should be ready by Christmas, the campus developer said.

The south and north extensions are expected to be ready for occupancy in April next year.

The MS Clinic is the only specialist clinic for multiple sclerosis south of Munich.

With the extensive construction work, the clinic will be renovated and expanded.

The estimated construction costs have increased, as clinic managing director Schneider says when asked.

“We are expecting 50 million.

The good news is that the funding will also increase accordingly.” In his short speech at the topping-out ceremony, he gratefully stated: “Other houses are threatened with closure, we are expanding.”
