The inner city study, presented this week at the business reception, has provided many interesting findings, although the core message of a truism is immediately obvious: the old town is there for everyone.

It's good that that was said again.

Our comment.

Recently, some traders have loudly protested against the city's plans to break up Friedrich-Fischer-Platz in favor of more greenery, seating and play areas and water.

They fight for every parking space.

That is their right, they represent their interests.

However, after the study, you should ask yourself whether you are betting on the wrong horse in this fight: an attractive city with a high quality of stay may be more attractive than a parking space right in front of the shop door.

A majority – albeit a small one – of those surveyed said they would prefer more greenery to more parking spaces.

The city and dealers should come to a table quickly.

Because the study gives both sides tasks to do: The desire for more diversity, especially for children's clothing and young fashion stores, is unmistakable.

This demand is not new either.

City marketing and Ardeo must never tire of luring potential dealers to Erding.

Both sides should also pull together to use Erdinger's old town even more intensively.

Every market Sunday, most recently Blue Light Day, shows that the masses flock as soon as something is offered to them.

What potential!

How about an Easter market lasting several weeks, with folk music days consistently in the city center, etc.?

The city has to tackle one task alone: the rapid construction of an efficient parking garage.

The parking spaces at Mühlgraben are no longer available forever (the leases are expiring), and the hall at Lodererplatz will soon be finished.

The urgently needed climate-adapted redesign of the city center must be accompanied by a large garage at the old building yard.

But the study also shows: Erding is not suitable for a large pedestrian zone on Langer Zeile and Landshuter Straße.

The street space is too wide for that.

And it would be unreasonable for traders and residents alike that the properties can no longer be reached by car, especially since there is no road behind for access.

And: There are enough areas to make Erding even more attractive.
