Karin and Helmut Huber fondly remember their first dance.

And a special gift connects them to this day.

Germering – Karin and Helmut Huber didn't have to think about it for long when they met at a carnival ball in 1961.

“We saw each other and it worked,” the husband remembers the very first happy moment together.

The look his wife gives him confirms this. The couple married three years later.

Second Mayor Manuela Kreuzmair congratulated on the diamond wedding on behalf of the city.

Watch given

A sign of this love at first sight is that Helmut Huber gave his future wife a watch for her 18th birthday just a few months after they met.

The appreciation and joy about it has lasted.

“I still cherish this watch today,” says Karin Huber.

She was born in Berlin in 1942 and moved to Munich with her parents two years later.

Her husband, who is two years older and worked as a car mechanic until an accident at work, was born in the Bavarian capital.

The couple also quickly agreed on the church marriage - she is Protestant, he is Catholic.

“We’re going to have a Protestant wedding,” they decided.

Since upbringing was largely the responsibility of the mothers back then, it should be the same for them.

However, their only daughter was not born until 1968, and the couple has no grandchildren.

Karin Huber still remembers the wedding in Hartmannshofen on March 20, 1964 very fondly for one reason.

“As a girl, I had confirmation from Pastor Muschler, who married us.” Their shared life path led via the Allgäu and back to Munich in 1971 to Germering, where they still live in the same apartment.

Dance

Later, a shared hobby developed: dancing.

They discovered it through their daughter's prom.

“We took courses at a dance school,” says the wife and her partner nods.

“We didn’t want to go to tournaments, but we wanted a good level,” confirms the husband.

The enthusiasm has continued to the extent that people enjoy watching broadcasts of dance sports events on television.

But another passion has developed for Karin Huber.

She enjoys using WhatsApp and is a member of a cooking group on Facebook.

The man who praises: “My wife is a good cook” also gets something out of it.

His wife also returns the recognition: “My Helmut always helps with the preparation and the chopping.” These are very nice moments of togetherness.

What she really appreciates about her husband is that he is very hardworking.

So the 60 years of marriage were spent in contentment, not excessively, but without any major worries.

Her parents were a good role model for a frugal life.

On their diamond wedding day, they both expressed that they still fit together: “We are satisfied.”
