The cause of death of a 43-year-old man in Salassa (Turin) was not, as previously thought, a drug overdose, but suffocation during an exorcism with Islamic rhythm.
This was confirmed by the investigations of the carabinieri of the Ivrea company, who arrested the victim's ex-spouse, brother and uncle.
The woman is under house arrest, the men are in prison.
The investigations found that the 43-year-old had already had to resort to hospital treatment after a previous ritual, led by his uncle.
The victim and those arrested are all of North African origin.
The tragic epilogue of the ritual in an apartment in Salassa, last February 10th.
The victim had already been subjected to at least two sessions of exorcism with an Islamic rite, as his relatives believed him to be possessed by demons.
The police, however, revealed another truth despite the suspects' attempt to divert the investigation.
The outcome of the autopsy then established the cause of death as suffocation.
The victim's uncle, a key figure in the Islamic community of Cuorgnè, another municipality in the Canavese area, would have led the rituals.
