His arrival late this morning in Tel Aviv took place in a context of growing tension between Israel and the United States, its main ally.

On Friday, while Antony Blinken was holding more face-to-face meetings with Israeli leaders, the United Nations Security Council rejected a proposed American resolution calling for an
“immediate and lasting ceasefire”
.
It was Russia and China who vetoed, believing that the American proposal did not go far enough.
However, this is the first time since the start of the war that the United States has so clearly called for a ceasefire.
