A man from the United Kingdom made the
most important discovery of his life:
he found a
gold nugget worth thousands of dollars
with the help of an
old and defective metal detector
.
The protagonist of this story is called
Richard Brock
and he is an English citizen who since
1989
has been
searching for valuable objects in nature
, according to local newspapers.
One day, in mid-May 2023, he left his house - located in
Somerset
County -
to
join an expedition
organized by a
group of treasure hunters
.
The objective of all the participants of the excursion was
to search agricultural fields
in the
Shropshire hills
- a natural region of England - in the hope of discovering something of value.
The unforeseen event that the man suffered
"I left my home and drove my car
for three and a half hours
to arrive in Shropshire. In fact,
I arrived there an hour late
. I thought
I had missed the most important thing
of the day," Brock said, quoted by the British agency
South West News Service
(SWNS).
When the man was ready to start the search, his metal detector
stopped working
:
it had just suffered a malfunction
.
Therefore,
he ended up using another device that he had brought as a backup
.
This replacement device
was old and also malfunctioned

practically broken:
it had a
damaged LCD screen
and
it worked half-way
," said the English citizen.
A discovery that changed everything
At first, Brock searched part of the agricultural field and found only a few
rusty metal stakes that were of no importance
.
However,
20 minutes later
, the man
took the joy of his life.
At that moment, his metal detector began to ring again: this time, a treasure was waiting to be banished.
"
I found a gold nugget buried more than 12cm deep in the ground
," he told

from ear to ear
, it was
his lucky day
.
"I couldn't believe it:
I arrived late and it only took me a few minutes
to come across the piece of precious metal. This expedition was supposed
to last all day
," he said.
Furthermore, the man reflected: "This
shows that the metal detector used does not matter
. If
you just walk over the place
where the object rests and
are attentive enough
to what may be under the ground,
you make a difference
." .
In the area of the discovery there once existed a route and a railway that allegedly transported gold originating from Wales also passed through there, according to information from local media.

between
30,000 and 40,000 pounds sterling
(approximately 37,800 to 50,400 US dollars).
On the other hand, Brock assured that
half of the money from the sale will go to the owner of the land
where the gold nugget was buried.
"I'm going to give half of the money to the owner of the agricultural field," he confirmed to
