A 58-year-old man was sentenced this Thursday to six months in prison for assaulting his wife and gendarmes called to the intervention

“If I took out the knife, they shot me and we didn't talk about it anymore.

I wanted to end it.

» Head bowed, in front of the judges of the Compiègne court, Bruno T., 58, listens to the deliberations.

He is sentenced to two years in prison, including six months in prison, and will have to undergo psychiatric and addiction treatment for two years.

On March 16, the gendarmes from the Ressons-sur-Matz brigade were called around 10 p.m. for a domestic dispute in Margny-sur-Matz.

The victim took refuge with his neighbor.

It was at this moment that her partner, Bruno T., left his home hiding something behind his back.

The neighbor comes to meet him to calm him down and manages to take the object in question from him: a bayonet with a 29 cm blade.

A “suicide by law enforcement”?

The soldiers then call the Gendarmerie Surveillance and Intervention Platoon (PSIG) for reinforcement.

Upon their arrival, a strategy was put in place given the dangerousness of the situation.

Bruno T took refuge at home.

The neighbor calls him to offer to smoke a cigarette and thus bring him out so that he can be arrested peacefully.

But once outside, the fifty-year-old takes a knife from his sleeve and advances towards the police officer who narrowly avoids the blade.

In order to control him, a soldier should use his taser before arresting him.

During the day, the couple had argued over the organization of the Passover celebration.

During family meals, Bruno T drinks more than he should.

He claims to be aware of his alcoholism and to be monitored.

" But not enough.

He asked to be hospitalized but this was not possible.

The children no longer want to come because of his alcoholism, his wife testifies.

That day, when he came back from shopping, he brought back some beers.

This is what started the argument.

He slammed me against the wall.

It was the first time this happened.

Bruno T. suffers from his addiction, drinks on the sly and has got it into his head that his wife has become unfaithful.

He attempted suicide last December and said he wanted to do it again on the day of the incident.

“I didn’t have the courage to turn the gun on myself.

I told myself that the police were going to shoot me and that everything would be over.

» “All the ingredients were there for a real drama,” analyzes the deputy prosecutor.

One death was avoided.

But suicide by law enforcement is revolting.
