I wrote my first note about this place on February 25, 2000.
It was published in this medium in the entertainment section “Eating outside”.
It began like this: “Some gastronomic entrepreneurs seem more interested in copying foreign models, without worrying about delving into the possibilities of our culinary traditions.
Luckily not everyone thinks the same..."
Twenty-four years later the reasoning is still intact.
This notable bar knew how to maintain throughout its almost centenary history
(the García family opened its doors in 1927) a
very precise
identity .
Absolutely
Buenos Aires and neighborhood.
The founders and their descendants knew how to navigate the ups and downs of the country without losing an ounce of dignity and coherence.
They received dozens of offers to give up that relic.
They did not give in to temptations.
They knew that a wrong decision could become the tombstone of this
icon of the city's gastronomic culture.
The “new” Café García

Café García reopened its doors without losing its almost century-old mystique.
Last year Hugo García, hit by economic reality and a family tragedy, decided that the time had come to leave the family legacy in other hands.
Trustworthy hands.
Hands of people in love with the history of this remarkable bar
, convinced that it was worth investing in a place representative of an important part of the Buenos Aires identity.
He was lucky to find them.

A few days ago, after a profound, intelligent and respectful restructuring, the establishment faced its new life.
The living room now seems larger and brighter.
The checkerboard floor, the boiserie, the polished wooden tables, the Thonet chairs, the majestic bar, the photos and the blackboards are still in place.
The feeling of entering a world where time takes on another dimension did not change.
What to eat at Café García
The waiters welcome customers with an artisanal vermouth.
The queen of the menu continues to be the famous house snack offered in two formats: for two and for four people.
A tempting, succulent, shocking and joyful sequence divided between hot and cold options presented in two stages.
She is the ideal companion to fully enjoy this journey between past, present and future.
