Lightning strikes the roof: Attentive neighbors immediately call emergency services

Several thunderstorm cells passed over the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district on Thursday, following a corresponding warning from the German Weather Service.

At around 2:45 p.m. lightning struck the house in Endlhausen - this was evidenced by heavy smoke, according to a police spokesman.

Neighbors immediately dialed the emergency number, and just minutes later the fire departments from Endlhausen, Egling and Thanning as well as from Altkirchen, Oberbiberg and Taufkirchen in the Munich district were on site.

Wolfratshausen police estimate property damage at around 20,000 euros

Lightning had struck the roof, and a light bulb hanging over a bed had come off due to overvoltage.

“It was not an open fire, but a smoldering fire,” explains a police spokesman.

The fire brigade teams, using a C-pipe under breathing protection, were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

As a precaution, the emergency services opened the false ceiling above the fire site - but after a meticulous search they gave the all-clear.

The Wolfratshausen police estimate the property damage at around 20,000 euros.
