While the closing of the phase for submitting wishes on My Master takes place this Sunday, March 24, we looked at the data from the My Master platform, available for the year 2022-2023.
Some training courses are very successful given the number of applications received.
This is the case of “Police and internal security” at the University of Pau and Pays de l’Adour with 780 applications, “Social law and labor relations” at the University of Lyon 3 for 938 applications, “Psychopathology and health psychology” at the University of Lille with 709 applications or even “Behavioral and cognitive therapies” in Lille with 871 applications.
All were overwhelmed with applications last year with respectively 41, 38, 37 and 34 candidates for a single place.

Their other point in common?
These are four master's courses which have accepted almost no applications from outside their university.
Same observation in international notarial law at Lyon 3 or Environment, Time, Territories, Societies at the Sorbonne.
Despite their 28 and 25 candidates per available place, no candidate from outside was accepted.

My Master, the platform launched in 2023 by the Ministry of Higher Education, responded to several problems encountered by students such as training: too much paperwork with a file sent as many times as it was necessary to apply for training, chairs empty at the start of the school year, due to a lack of centralization of requests or even different schedules from one training course to another, there was no shortage of arguments in favor of the platform.

Another significant advantage is that of making known at a glance training courses reserved for the happy few: on the site, as on Parcoursup, a map lists all the training courses linked to a sector or a sector in particular.
A boon for diversifying applications, but above all an influx of applications towards very selective courses or whose ranks are already well occupied by license 3s from the same university.

According to My Master's data, no chance of obtaining a place in the master's degree in Police and internal security at the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour: 780 candidates, including 77 from the same establishment (10% of candidates) , 19 places, 33 proposals sent including 33 to candidates from the same establishment (100% of admission proposals).
But he is not the only one.
Thus, the master's degree in Psychopathology and Health Psychology at the University of Lille, or Science and Engineering of Networks, Internet and Systems at the University of Strasbourg have the same admission proposal ratio for candidates of the same establishment, while they only weigh 20 and 19% respectively.

“There is a big difference between the number of potential candidates and the number of places,” explains Loup, the co-founder of Vite mon master, a site which listed missing places in non-MEEF masters courses a year ago. : “We often cite law, eco-management, SVT and psychology.
But before My Masters, law candidates could make 30 to 40 applications.
Today they are limited to 15.” A number of applications which can push certain courses to only choose students from their university, but not only.
“Universities have invested in the training of their undergraduate students, so some give a real advantage to their students and there is also a form of justice: it can be a little unfair to see yourself ahead of students from a prestigious college.
Also, some academics have the impression of having better trained their students at their university.

When contacted, all the training courses concerned did not respond to us.
