Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini called French President Emmanuel Macron a "warmonger" on Saturday during a Rome convention of Identity and Democracy (ID) group that his League party belongs to at the European level.
"With his words Macron with him is a danger for our country and for this continent," Salvini told the 'Winds of Change' convention.
"I don't want to leave a continent ready to enter World War III to my children".
Salvini also spoke about this year's presidential elections in the United States.
"The years the Republicans were in government always coincided with years of peace," he said.
"I hope that Americans will go back to choosing peace."
