In recognition of their special achievements, the members of the Ober-alting Volunteer Fire Department appointed Stefan Gumpp as honorary board member and Harald Wagner as honorary commander.

The award came as a surprise at the annual meeting.

Oberalting – It was the highlight of the annual meeting of the Oberalting Volunteer Fire Department: completely surprisingly, Stefan Gumpp and Harald Wagner were made honorary members for their extraordinary commitment.

The last appointment was many years ago.

“We thought about it in a small group and decided,” reported board member Felix Lichtenberg after the meeting.

Nothing about the decision was made known to the outside world, so Harald Wagner and Stefan Gumpp were very surprised.

“They have achieved a lot together for many years and enjoyed together.”

Both men have been members of the fire department for around 40 years.

Harald Wagner served as commander for 18 years, “he was significantly involved in the development of the defense force,” says Lichtenberg.

Stefan Gumpp was the association's board member for the same number of years; previously he was secretary.

“Both have made great contributions to their work for the Oberalting fire department,” emphasized Lichtenberg.

It has been more than 20 years since the Oberalting fire department honored honorary members.

They include Hans Gotzler, Ernst Huber and Ottmar Schreyegg, who died suddenly in August 2023 in an accident on his farm at the age of 75.

Schreyegg was also a supporting force in the club; a minute's silence was held in his honor at the meeting.

“We miss him a lot, it was a big blow for us in 2023 too,” said Lichtenberg.

The board and commanders also looked back on an active year that evening.

The total of 58 active personnel, including six women and 31 respiratory protection wearers, went on 90 missions, including 30 fires and 56 technical assistance missions.

In March, the people of Oberaltingen used their turntable ladder to help rescue a kite surfer who had gotten caught in a tree in Stegen in strong winds.

The violent storm in July caused countless missions, in September a tractor caught fire in a field, and at the beginning of December winter hit the district and demanded rescue workers.

In addition to the missions, the active participants completed 65 further training courses and two performance tests, as well as courses, training and exercises.

As usual, there are no official hourly numbers.

The Oberalting fire department also records this.

“But we don’t believe in adorning ourselves with hourly numbers,” said Lichtenberg.

Especially when it comes to club work, the question is: Where to start?

The focus of the club's work in 2023 was the St. Peter's Market, which the club has now started organizing again: it will take place on June 29th this year.

The fire department has been organizing the Seefelder Dult in the heart of Seefeld for more than 25 years.

Traditionally, the fire department also held a large Christmas tree sale in 2023, to be continued.

Numerous members continued their training.

The chief firefighters are now Leon Wagner, Leon Kreuzer and Martin Svigir.

Daniel Prester, Laurenz Mantel, Thomas Sanktjohanser, Thomas Schaffer and (main firefighter) Kathrin Graf can call themselves the main firefighters. Daniel Prester and Tim Wagner also completed training as fire engine operators.

Patricia Cornils is the fire extinguisher.

Max Lichtenberg, Nadine Neubauer, Florian Neubauer, Christine Wastian and Christian Ruf were honored for their loyalty to the club; they have been there for 20 years.

Günter Brengel and Sebastian Haberkorn have been members for 30 years.

Michael Ruhdorfer and Walter Wurstner accepted decorations for 40 years.

Ludwig Sanktjohanser received an award for 60 years.
