The news that the Munich duo would be over after 100 “Tatort” episodes prompted many fans to speculate as to whether there was a dispute between the investigators.
Our colleagues from Münster have a clear opinion on this.
Cologne – In mid-January, the BR announced that in 2025 the investigative duo Miroslav Nemec (69) and Udo Wachtveitl (65) will be over.
The rumor mill was bubbling that there was a dispute between the actors or that the two had had to quit at the request of the broadcaster.
Jan Josef Liefers (59) and Axel Prahl (63) now told us in an interview what they observed.
“Tatort” colleagues Jan Josef Liefers and Axel Prahl share private information
In the WDR talk format “Kölner Treff” on Friday, almost everything revolved around the crime series “Tatort”, which has been successful for decades.
An invited guest included Jörg Hartmann (54), who plays Inspector Peter Faber in “Tatort” Dortmund and who is also rumored to be leaving.
His colleagues from Münster, Axel Prahl and Jan Josef Liefers, who have been delighting audiences as the successful duo Thiel and Boerne for 22 years, were also guests.
When asked by moderator Susan Link (47) whether investigators exchange ideas with each other, for example in a WhatsApp group, the Münster colleagues chatted from the inside out.
It's rare to see each other, but there was once a nice Christmas party at which the Cologne colleagues (investigators "Ballauf and Schenk") and also the Munich colleagues were present, says Prahl.
Liefers also remembers that everyone came together in a bar in Cologne, “with rubbish gnomes and everything.”
There the two were also able to observe how Udo Wachtveitl and Miroslav Nemec interacted.
In response to the accusation that the two no longer get along, Prahl says: “I think it's a rumor that's being spread about the people of Munich.
They get along really well.”
Commissioners from the Munich “crime scene” expressed themselves
The two Munich commissioners concerned directly cleared up the issue of age in an exclusive interview with
Münchner Merkur
and
tz
in January 2024: “In the past few years, up to now, there has never been a specification as to when we should stop,” said Udo Wachtveitl.
However, it is “really not credible if we had to go hunting for criminals with a walker.” The two have been in front of the camera as an investigator duo for the BR since 1991.
Udo Wachtveitl is now 65, colleague Miroslav Nemec is already 69. Both wanted a farewell to the series that suits them, as they said in the interview.

The exact ending for the last episode has not yet been determined.
However, they want to “really enjoy” their roles as Ivo Batic and Franz Leitmayr again.
Fans will have to wait a few more months to see what that looks like.
Axel Prahl told “Kölner Treff” how a role as a “crime scene” detective can have a somewhat negative impact on your acting career if you are only associated with the crime film format.

The two are among the most famous faces: No wonder that the “Münster” episode with Axel Prahl and Jan Josef Liefers on Sunday (March 16th) overshadowed the television evening’s competition in terms of ratings.
