The Venezuelan opposition denounced on Saturday a
"blockage"
on the electoral authority's website, which prevents it from appointing Corina Yoris, designated as María Corina Machado's replacement to face President Nicolás Maduro in the July 28 elections.
The Plataforma Unitaria Democrática (PUD), which brings together the main opposition parties, claims to have been unable to connect to the special page of the National Electoral Council (CNE), the user name and password which gave it been assigned not working.
“More than 54 hours have passed since the start of the application period without being able to access the nomination system of Dr. Corina Yoris
,” declared the PUD on the X network.
“Nothing and no one will rule us out of the electoral path to obtain change for Venezuela with the strength of the majority vote
,” he said.
María Corina Machado, favorite in the polls, was named the PUD candidate after winning the primaries in October.
But she was stripped of her right to hold public office for fifteen years and on Friday appointed Corina Yoris, an 80-year-old philosopher and university professor, to replace her.
President Maduro, who is seeking a third term, has not yet presented the candidacy of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), although other organizations in his alliance have already done so.
