.Could the Schrannen tenant temporarily move into the Zieglerbräu?

The city is currently thinking about this.

The recently often complained vacancy in the old town also affects some properties that belong to the city.

The most prominent example: the Zieglerbräu.

When and how the restaurant can reopen is uncertain.

And the cultural barrier is the next permanent construction site.

Dachau

- It has long been known that Germany takes fire protection very seriously and that the legal requirements for this have now gone far too far in the eyes of many experts.

Two properties in Dachau's old town, both of which belong to the city, are exemplary of this: the Kulturschranne and the Zieglerbräu.

The Kulturschranne has been a problem child when it comes to fire protection for years.

There have been no fire accidents in the recent past, but that does not mean that the building needs to be renovated immediately and comprehensively in the eyes of the authorities.

In order to make at least smaller events possible, the number of spectators allowed was reduced to 199.

Reason: From 200 onwards, other, stricter guidelines apply, which the culture barrier could no longer have met.

According to city architect Moritz Reinhold, it is not yet clear when exactly the construction work, for which around 4.3 million euros has been made available in the city's construction budget for the years up to 2026, will begin.

One thing is certain: “the first immediate measures and the Europe-wide awarding of planning services” have already taken place in the past two years.

The city is “of course in direct communication” with the tenant and the Dachau Artists Association (KVD).

And: A closure “soon” is not planned; an appropriate schedule for the work must first be drawn up.

But since it is also clear to those responsible for the town hall that a longer closure of the Schranne is neither good for the tenant nor for the old town - keyword: vacancy - there is now a new idea.

This has so far only been discussed in the responsible committees of the city council behind closed doors, but the local newspaper learned: The city would offer the tenant of the Schranne to move over to the Zieglerbräu for the duration of the closure of his restaurant due to renovation.

Until then, the city would provide the Ziegler, for whom there are currently no applications from interested restaurateurs, with appropriate training.

But the city councilors did not yet want to decide exactly what should happen next with the Zieglerbräu.

Instead, the decision from last autumn to operate the Zieglerbräu long-term as a restaurant without being used as a hotel will remain the same until further notice.

Whether there should be additional (cultural) use by clubs or the move of town hall officials to the upper floor is still being examined.

Building authority manager Reinhold confirmed that “architects and specialist planners had already been commissioned” for this on Wednesday.

He expects the results of the tests “in the first half of the year”.

It has also been clear since Wednesday afternoon that the Zieglerbräu will not be sold for the time being.

Mayor Florian Hartmann asked the city councilors in the main and finance committee directly on Wednesday: “What does the city want with the property?

Why should the city keep it?” The “business basis” with which the city bought the building in 2019 has “gone away”: landlady Andrea Schneider had terminated her lease, and a town hall expansion into the Zieglerbräu is in view of the increasing number of home offices -Use no longer necessary.

However, the committee agreed: a sale would currently offer more risks than opportunities.

In view of the criticism of the city's vacancies, Mayor Florian Hartmann still wanted to defend the old town and appeal to the behavior of individuals.

Because the Zieglerbräu, for example, contrary to what is currently portrayed, did not only have fans.

“I kept reading complaints on social media.

That the food is old and so on.

Regretting now that the restaurant no longer exists is hypocritical!” The old town is “not desolate”.

And: “We have to be careful not to badmouth our old town!”

In this context, the mayor praised the businessman Franz Scherm, even if he did not explicitly mention his name.

As reported, Scherm had bought the Dachau branch of the fashion company Rübsamen.

The Scherm family had the property modernized a few years ago at great financial expense.

Hartmann: “There is, for example, an owner who even becomes a fashion entrepreneur.

That deserves the highest respect!

These are the people who really do something!”
