Is Audi coming with a small electric car?

Brand boss Gernot Döllner answers this question.

The CEO is also apparently planning important changes to the model series.

Ingolstadt/Munich - Audi is on the threshold of the electric age: By the end of the decade, the premium manufacturer says it wants to earn as much money with electric cars as with combustion engines.

Until then, however, patience seems to be required: The VW subsidiary recently declared that 2024 would be a “bridging year”.

As a result, in contrast to the successful previous year, the Ingolstadt-based company is likely to experience lower sales and revenue due to the introduction of new models:

Audi is bringing some new products - and is planning the electric A3 successor

Because production usually has to be fundamentally changed for new series, this usually results in falling delivery figures.

And there will be plenty of innovations from Audi soon: First, the fully electric Audi Q6 e-tron will go on sale, followed by the market launch of the also electric A6 e-tron - as well as the A5 and Q5 models with combustion engines.

It doesn't take long before the next Audi innovation is in the starting blocks - and of the models mentioned, it probably has the best sales prospects: the electric A3 successor.

As brand boss Gernot Döllner explained to the

Autocar

portal , the manufacturer is accelerating the development of a compact entry-level model.

There are also innovations in series management.

Audi is bringing a compact electric car – but not a small car

It is therefore a battery-electric alternative to the Audi A3 and Q3 model series.

The CEO describes the concept as “wonderful, unique and independent”.

His forecast for series suitability is three years, meaning the electric car could come onto the market in 2027.

Possibly as a crossover instead of a hatchback?

Döllner already wants to know the production location of the vehicle located below the Q4 e-tron - it should be the company headquarters in Ingolstadt.

At the same time, the 55-year-old dispels the rumor that Audi may also develop an electric successor to the A1 small car.

“It’s not a four-meter car.

(...) We will not have a successor for the A1 or Q2, no direct successor.

The model in the A3 segment will definitely be our entry-level car,” says Döllner.

The report also suggests that the car could be called A2 or Q2 e-tron due to new Audi nomenclature.

Audi boss Döllner is apparently planning new management of the model series

The

Handelsblatt

is now reporting on a planned change in model series management at the Volkswagen subsidiary.

Accordingly, Döllner wants to introduce a new management structure at Audi.

In the future, those responsible will look after the respective models “from the idea to the product”, which the Audi boss says he hopes will result in more entrepreneurship within the manufacturer.

The portal refers to information from corporate circles that, in addition to BMW, its sister company Porsche is also pursuing a similar strategy - this is perceived as “faster and more efficient”.
