The number of bicycles on Paris' cycle paths doubled during rush hours between 2022 and 2023. This is thanks to the "pedal care" launched years ago by mayor Anne Hidalgo.
The first socialist citizen, elected in 2014 and confirmed in 2020, wants to make the Ville Lumiere "100% cycleable" and "world bicycle capital".
For this reason, it has filled the city with lanes for cyclists and dedicated parking lots.
The results of this policy were shown by the newspaper Le Monde, which compared the data from the 128 traffic sensors placed on the city's cycle paths.
In October 2023, peak-hour bike traffic in the bike lane was double that recorded in October 2022. In some places, it even tripled.
In October two years ago, an average of 100 bicycles per hour passed through each survey point at 8 in the morning and 6 in the afternoon.
A year later, in those times the bikes averaged over 200 every hour.
