The Jakobsbrunnen on Salzstrasse is again decorated for Easter.

City priest Andreas Christian Jaster gave him the blessing of the church.

Germering - The wind blew strongly around Saint Jacob's nose, mixed with rain and sleet showers.

As in the previous year, the blessing of the freshly decorated Easter fountain and the palm bushes had to be moved to the village church a few meters away.

Nevertheless, the believers remained joyful that “a wonderful tradition is being preserved,” as city priest Andreas Christian Jaster put it

At the same time, the blessing of the palm bushes introduces people to Palm Sunday and Holy Week.

Christine Sedlmeier from Dorffrauen also pointed out that the palm bushes have a special meaning: in rural areas they are stuck into the ground in fields to pray for a good harvest.

Exactly 887 Easter eggs

Many hard-working hands made the Easter fountain possible in the 20th year - the Jakobsbrunnen was decorated for the first time in 2003.

Hannelore Biffar donated a large part of the clippings, which were then wound into the garlands in the Seeholzer family's rooms over many hours.

They were then carefully attached to the fountain on Friday.

“We made good use of the beautiful weather,” said Friedrich Drexler, chairman of the local heritage association.

The garlands traditionally also include Easter eggs hand-painted by the children of the small field school.

This year there are exactly 887. Drexler also revealed how carefully they are looked after and nurtured throughout the year: “There are some that have been hanging on the fountain for 20 years.” Of course, others have to be replaced again and again.

Sign of life

The entire ensemble of the fountain with Saint Jacob is a representation of the awakening of nature that returns in spring, explained city priest Jaster.

Because the eggs would symbolize life just like the water in the well.

The palm bushes, which had previously been bought by the village women, are also a sign of everything that blooms.

“Everything points to Easter and the joy of the resurrection,” emphasized Jaster during the approximately 40-minute service.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the “Ave Maria” performed by church musician Sul Bi Yi, which the approximately 50 believers in the village church of St. Jakob listened to with emotion.

That probably helped to calm down the capricious weather somewhat.

Because for a few minutes the wind and rain gave calm.

So it finally became possible to gather around the Easter fountain near the village church, at least for a little while.
